March 30, 2010

A special meeting of the Daggett Board of Education was held in Room 6 of the district office building on March 30, 2010. President Asbill called the meeting to order at 5:45PM.  Also attending were members Jones, Barber, Olsen, and Pallesen; Superintendent Northcott; Business Administrator Robinson; Roger Smith, Kathy Parkinson and Guy Durrant.

Roger Smith of SL&A Architects brought to the Board ideas that were generated from his previous visit.

Option 1: New classroom addition placed at the existing floor elevation which would give direct access from the existing school to the new addition and eliminate the need for stairs or ramp. The disadvantages to this option would be increased potential for ground water issues; potentially higher construction costs; and decrease or eliminate any natural light. Option 2: New classroom addition placed at a higher elevation of 4Õabove existing elevation which would place classrooms higher than the surrounding grade.  The disadvantages would be the need for stairs and a ramp.

Mr. Smith also presented an option which would add a second level to the addition that would house two new recreation classrooms.  One would be the size of a full gym the other would be a little smaller.  This level would also house the district offices.  The option of placing the district offices and two full size recreational classrooms in a separate metal building was also discussed.  It was the consensus of the Board that the metal building option was a less expensive way to go.

Mr. Smith quoted a price of $192,000.00 to re-roof the existing building.  This would be asphalt shingle with a 40 year guarantee plus water shield.  There was also discussion regarding the mechanical upgrade.

The BoardÕs priority for building projects would be #1 – MHS classroom addition; #2 – HVAC/re-roofing at MHS; #3 - Pre-school addition at MES.

Superintendent Northcott led a discussion on FY2010-11 budget planning.

There being no further business the meeting was declared adjourned.
